How to Share Files Securely in 2026

March 27, 2026 - EasySend Team

Sharing files online is easy. Sharing them securely takes a little more thought. This guide covers everything you need to know about protecting your files during transfer in 2026.

The 3 Layers of File Transfer Security

1. Encryption in Transit (HTTPS)

This is the baseline. When you upload a file over HTTPS, the connection is encrypted. An attacker intercepting your traffic sees gibberish. Every legitimate service uses HTTPS. But the server receives your file in its original readable form.

2. Encryption at Rest

Some services encrypt files on their storage disks. Google Drive and Dropbox do this. But they hold the encryption keys. Their employees or hackers who breach their infrastructure can still access your data.

3. End-to-End Encryption (E2E)

End-to-end encryption is the only method where the service provider cannot read your files. Your file is encrypted on your device before upload. The server stores only encrypted data and never has the key. EasySend uses AES-256-GCM via the Web Crypto API. Learn how it works in detail.
