Create a File Sharing Link in Seconds
Share Files with a Link - No Account Needed
EasySend creates a shareable file link in under 10 seconds. Upload your file, copy the short URL, send it to anyone. No account needed on either end.
How Link Sharing Works
Link-based file sharing is the simplest way to get a file from point A to point B. There are no plugins to install, no invitations to accept and no shared folders to configure. You upload a file and we give you a URL. Anyone who clicks that URL downloads the file. That is the entire process.
We chose this model because it works everywhere. The link can be pasted into an email, dropped into a Slack channel, texted to a phone number, posted in a project management tool or printed on a piece of paper. The recipient does not need to use EasySend, have an account or even know what EasySend is. They click the link and get the file. It works on every device and every operating system with a web browser.
When you upload a file we store it on encrypted cloud infrastructure and generate a unique download URL. This URL is the only way to access the file. It cannot be guessed or discovered through brute force because the identifier is cryptographically random. When the link expires the file is permanently deleted and the URL stops working.
Short URL Format
Nobody wants to share a link that is 200 characters long. We generate compact URLs using our short domain so your links are easy to copy, paste and even read aloud if needed. A typical EasySend link looks something like esend.io/f/abc123 - short enough to fit in a text message without getting truncated and clean enough to include in a professional email.
Short URLs also look better in contexts where long links break or get reformatted. Chat applications, social media posts and document editors all handle short URLs more gracefully than long ones with query strings and encoded parameters.
QR Codes
Every file link on EasySend comes with a QR code that you can display or download. This is useful when you need to share a file with someone who is physically present. Instead of dictating a URL or sending a message you can simply show the QR code on your screen and let them scan it with their phone camera.
We see QR codes used frequently in presentations, classrooms and meetings. A teacher sharing a handout with students, a presenter distributing slides to an audience or a colleague passing a file to someone across the table. The QR code contains the same short URL so it scans quickly and reliably even from across a room.
Custom Vanity Links
On our paid plans you can create custom vanity URLs for your file links. Instead of a random identifier your link can include a meaningful slug like esend.io/f/quarterly-report or esend.io/f/wedding-photos. This makes links more memorable and more professional when sharing them with clients or colleagues.
Vanity links are available on our Plus plan at $1.99 per month and above. Each custom slug must be unique across the platform and is reserved for your use as long as the link is active. When the link expires the slug becomes available again.
Link Security
We take link security seriously because the URL is the only thing standing between your file and the public internet. Here is what we do to keep your shared files safe.
Password Protection
On our Plus and Pro plans you can add a password to any file link. When someone clicks a password-protected link they see a prompt asking for the password before the download begins. This adds a second layer of protection beyond the link itself. Even if the URL is accidentally shared with the wrong person they cannot access the file without the password.
We recommend using password protection whenever you share sensitive documents like contracts, financial reports or personal records. Send the link through one channel and the password through a different channel for maximum security.
End-to-End Encryption
All files uploaded to EasySend are encrypted in transit using TLS and at rest using AES-256 encryption. On our Pro plan you can enable end-to-end encryption where the encryption key is embedded in the URL fragment (the part after the # symbol) and never sent to our servers. This means we physically cannot read your file even if we wanted to. Only someone with the complete link can decrypt and download the content. For more information visit our secure file sharing page.
Link Expiration
Every link has an expiration date. On the free plan links expire after 48 hours. On Plus they last 30 days and on Pro they last 90 days. When a link expires the file is permanently deleted from our servers and the URL returns a 404 page. You can also manually revoke a link at any time if you created it through an account. This gives you control over how long your files remain accessible.
When to Use Link Sharing
Link sharing works best when you need to send files to people outside your organization or to anyone who does not use the same tools you do. It eliminates the friction of shared drives, cloud storage invitations and attachment size limits. If the recipient has a browser they can receive the file. It is also the right choice for one-time transfers where setting up a shared folder would be overkill.
Create a Share LinkFrequently Asked Questions
How long do file links last?
Link duration depends on your plan. Free links expire after 48 hours. Plus plan links last 30 days and Pro plan links last 90 days. After expiration the file is permanently deleted from our servers and the link stops working. You can also manually delete a link before it expires if you created it through an account on a paid plan.
Can I customize the URL for my file link?
Yes. Our Plus and Pro plans include the ability to create custom vanity URLs. Instead of a random string your link can include a descriptive slug that you choose. Custom slugs must be unique across the platform. If you are on the free plan your links will use automatically generated short identifiers which are still compact and easy to share.
Can I password-protect a file link?
Yes. Password protection is available on our Plus plan at $1.99 per month and our Pro plan at $4.99 per month. When you add a password to a link the recipient must enter that password before they can download the file. For maximum security we recommend sending the link and the password through different communication channels so that a single compromised channel does not expose both.
